Finally Full Independence !!!

Finally, Burma won full independence from both Britain and Japan on January 4, 1948. (1) With the independence, came a new name for Burma. Burma was renamed the Union of Burma. (2)

Vietnam !

Did you find it fascinating how the British came all the way to South East Asia to conquer Burma. Look on Letitia's page on Vietnam, also in South East Asia.

While the British conquered Burma, the French conquered Vietnam. Vietnam had a revolutionary leader, Ho Chi Minh and so did Burma, Aung San. But also Vietnam, had a huge war, where several other countries were involved, like China and Russia who aided Vietnam, and America who aided France. In the end both Burma and Vietnam were able to get their independence. :)

India !

It was interesting how the British conquered Burma, but like me if you are curious how the British conquered other countries, Go to Ali's Page on India.

India was also colonized by Britain, but in different ways. The British made a huge impact in the lives of the Indians. Where the British changed India, politically, intellectually, but not too much on religion. When compared to Britain's effect on Burma, that is a lot. When the British came to Burma, there was only economical and transportation changes.
